Volunteers

Fairhaven is Currently Seeking Volunteers for the Following Positions:

Gardening

Assistant for Euchre - Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm

Assistant for Bingo - Tuesday and /or Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Asssistant for Darts - Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 pm

Assistant for Movie Night - Friday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 pm

All of the above work with the Activationist and provide assistance for residents to go to and from the activities as well as support them as identified during the activity.  These positions would be suitable for high school students wishing to complete their community involvement requirement.

Other assistants are required to help Activationists with the gardening group, baking or at the spa, Monday through Friday.

 

Volunteer Positions

 

Fairhaven has a wide range of exciting and challenging volunteer positions available, depending on your skills and interests. 

Bible Study Leader

Prepare and lead an ecumenical bible study for a small group of residents of all denominations.

Cafe

Volunteers serve tea and coffee, and sell sundry items to residents, visitors, staff.

Clerical Volunteer

Assist staff with clerical/computer duties such as filing, photocopying, data entry.

Dining Room Assistant

Assist residents at mealtime by portering residents to and from the dining room, putting on bibs, cutting up food, buttering bread, and serving tea and coffee.

Entertainer

Provide a program of music through singing or playing a musical instrument such as piano, organ or guitar

Friendly Visitor

Visit a resident one on one to provide social interaction and conversation to offer extra individual attention.

Gardener (Indoors)

Care for houseplants used to enhance the interior of the Home, by watering, transplanting, etc.

Gardener (Outdoors)

Provide outdoor watering and weeding services to all bedding areas and selected lawns.

Hairdresser Assistant

Porter residents to and from the salon and visit with residents while they are waiting.

Hymn Sing Volunteer

Play/lead familiar hymns to residents who would enjoy listening and/or singing along.

Meal Assistant

Assist feeding residents at meal times, training and orientation provided, nursing supervision provided at all times.

Organist

Play familiar hymns on the organ during the hymn sing or worship service. Ability to feel comfortable with residents who have physical and/or mental limitations.

Physiotherapy Assistant

Prepare equipment for exercise groups, prepare hot packs and ice packs, assist the physiotherapist with resident mobility exercises.

Pianist - Special Care

Play well-known songs to residents providing them with an opportunity to sing, dance, and reminisce. Ability to feel comfortable with residents who have physical and/or mental limitations.

Refreshment Cart Volunteer

Serve refreshments throughout the Home and socialize with residents.

Resident Activity Assistant

Assist the recreation staff with weekly resident activities such as bingo, bowling, mini golf, baking, spa and knitting.

Resident Computer Volunteer

Assist residents with accessing computer programs, the internet, and email.

Social Pub Assistant

Porter residents to and from the pub, socialize with residents, assist with pub set up and clean up.

Special Event Volunteer

Assist recreation staff with parties and entertainment within the Home, or on outings such as shopping, porter residents, set up and clean up, serve refreshments.

Sunday Worship Leader

Provide an opportunity for residents to attend an interdenominational worship service and listen to or sing along with old familiar hymns.

Therapy Dog Volunteer

Provide an opportunity for residents to visit with well-behaved dogs. Dog and owner must be registered with East Central Therapy Dog Program.

Worship Centre Assistant

Assist residents to and from worship services. Assist residents during service as needed i.e. find hymns, etc.
