Overview of the Project
Typical Floor
 |
Number of Floors
There are two Resident Home Area (RHA) wings of four
storeys and a central core of support spaces that is five storeys
(the east wing steps down one storey, taking advantage of the slope
of the site, to result in five levels).
Special Care Unit
One of the two ground-floor
RHAs have been designated as a Special Care Unit, allowing them
access to secure landscaped outdoor space.
Number of Beds
Each of the four floors
will accommodate two RHAs. Each RHA provides accomodation
for 32 residents for a total of 256 beds. This is equal to
Fairhaven's current capacity.

Future Provisions
The site planning for the facility
makes provision for a future wing which, at four to six floors,
could accommodate 128 to 192 more residents.
Outdoor Space
The site at Fairhaven
is extremely attractive and pastoral with distant views to the south
and to the Otonabee River on the east. Residents' rooms take
advantage of these views. Existing paved pathways with sitting
areas at intervals are extended as part of the landscaping for the
Home. Outdoor sitting areas are located near the main entrance
lobby. Sheltered patios and decks are located on each floor
adjacent to the resident lounges. The Special Care Unit has
its own secure, fenced outdoor garden space which is fully visible
from the dining and lounge areas, as well as from the nurse work
area. All outdoor areas provide a mix of sun and shade to
allow for resident comfort at different times of the year.
