Capital Campaign

Why is a Capital Campaign Needed?

Redevelopment The original Fairhaven building was constructed more than 45 years ago on the crest of the Langton Street hill and easily met the needs of the people in the area at that time.  With its emphasis on providing quality care and a friendly, "homey" environment, Fairhaven gradually built a solid, respected reputation, and has continued to maintain and improve its level of care throughout the years.

Several changes and upgrades were made to the facility over the past few decades, but by the late 1990's it became clear that a major overhaul was necessary.  When the provincial Ministry of Health and Long Term Care introduced its latest set of regulations in 1998, Fairhaven was directed to rebuild in order to meet current design standards.  At this point, renovations and upgrades could no longer suffice and the Province directed Fairhaven to rebuild. The “new” Fairhaven as designed by the joint venture architects Salter Farrow Pilon and Lett/Smith complies with the Long-Term Care Facility Design Standards, 1998 prepared by the Long-Term Care Division of the Ontario Ministry of Health. The “new” Fairhaven exceeds these basic standards with a view to providing residents with a “homelike” facility in which to live.

Caring for Generations - The Fairhaven Capital Campaign

Caring for Generations - The Capital Campaign for Fairhaven The Fairhaven Capital Campaign started its "quiet" phase in November 2001 and on August 22, 2002 launched the Campaign publicly to reach out to seek the support of corporations, foundations, individuals, service organizations and the Fairhaven "family" to help achieve the public sector objective of $1.5 million.

Fairhaven continues to need the support of the community to raise $1.5 million to ensure a long-term care facility that is equipped to meet the aging needs of our community.

Since September 2002 the “caring for generations” campaign has raised $760,000 for enhancements over and above the basic building standards. These include:

Enhanced personal space within each resident’s room including extra living space, individual climate controls and easy toilet access from either side with grab bars on either side

A second Shower Room on each Resident Home Area

Spa atmosphere in each of the Bath Rooms featuring a therapeutic tub and glass block wall to provide natural lighting as well as privacy

Special purpose rooms - Café, Great Room and Worship Centre

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made a donation and supported the campaign. By giving a gift to the “caring for generations” campaign you are not only enhancing the quality of life for present and future generations of families but also, you are supporting the future of long-term care in our community.

To ensure the “new” Fairhaven is truly a home-away-from-home for its residents it is imperative the campaign is successful in reaching its full goal. These funds will help Fairhaven to afford much-needed furnishings, equipment and devices as follows:

Secured Therapeutic Gardens for Alzheimer and dementia residents to have a safe place for recreation, exercise and therapeutic programs including basic equipment to hold outdoor summer activities such as a Pergola, barbecues and lawn furniture

Evacusleds to safely remove all residents from the premises in the event of an evacuation due to fire or disaster

Sound System for the resident-activity room to enable the hearing impaired (most residents) to fully participate in entertainment programs

A piano to entertain and stimulate Alzheimer and special care dementia residents

Computers to stimulate and involve all residents

Memory Boxes at the door of each resident’s room in which to display family keepsakes, photographs and mementos

Donor Recognition

An important component of the Capital Campaign is Donor Recognition. Our Donor Wall which is situated in the front lobby reflects contributions made to the Foundation/Campaign over $1,000. Plaques are installed to recognize cumulative contributions at various levels. The names of all contributors are also placed within a donor book of tribute. are A special ceremony is held annually to celebration new or added gifts!

In addition to the main donor wall and donor book of tribute, donors also have an opportunity to purchase a recognition plaque "In Memory", "In Tribute" or "In Celebration" of a special occasion.

Some examples…
- A stone can be inscribed and installed within a newly created outdoor Tribute Walk. A minimum donation of $100 is required to create a named opportunity within the tribute walk.
